Police are seeking information about a 51-year-old woman who was found dead inside a Canberra hotel room.

The woman was found in a room at the Hotel Realm in Barton about 1.15 pm on Tuesday.

The death does not appear to be suspicious, however, investigations are ongoing to determine the cause. Forensic science officers stayed at the scene for several hours.

ACT Policing said: "While police continue to investigate the circumstances of this incident, the woman's death does not appear to be suspicious.

"A report will be prepared for the coroner."

The woman is yet to be named and police are yet to give any indication of what the circumstances of the death are.

There are believed to be no signs of violence, so the cause of death remains a mystery for now.

There was also no suspicious activity at the hotel, where there was a large formal function on the lower floors with guests dressed in formal wear.

ACT police are calling for anyone with information to come forward or contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
