Adelaide East End café closes after 20 years due to ongoing roadworks

The family run East Terrace Continental has shut its doors permanently after trading for more than 20 years.

For the past five years it has been run by Joe and Marisa Bueti, who blamed the decision to close on ongoing roadworks, including the tramline extension, and the closure of the Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH), which caused a significant drop in customers.

“And that’s a wrap … to everyone who came out to support us this weekend, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for helping us give East Terrace Continental the send-off it deserved,” the café said on Facebook.

“Many of you remember that 12 months ago we were already pleading for support from local government to help deal with the intense loss of business caused by the ongoing roadworks that cut off access to us and the loss of foot traffic after the move of the RAH.

“We watched as businesses around us all closed their doors, and the East End became a ghost town.”
