Much loved Knox Ozone Irish pub to close after 17 years

The Seamus O’Toole’s Irish pub at Westfield Knox in Melbourne will close its doors at the end of the month after 17 years in Knox Ozone.

“Both Seamus and Westfield Knox have jointly agreed to continue their longstanding, constructive relationship with a view to exploring possible future partnerships within Knox and the broader Westfield portfolio,” Westfield Knox centre manager Kristian Nicholls told Knox Leader.

There were reports that the decision by the pub’s owner to close the venue, commonly known as ‘The Irish’, was failure to negotiate a discount on the alleged $60,000-a-month rent.

The pub, which opened in 2002, has garnered a loyal following among locals, with one regular patron organising “The Last Goodbye’ event on Facebook.

Scheduled for May 27, the event has more than 1800 people listed as attending.

“It shows how much love and passion people have for the place,” organiser Jackson Griffiths told Know Leader.
