Much anticipated Stanwell Park beach café on schedule to open by end of year

A new café will be open before the end of the year at Stanwell Park beach in Wollongong, replacing the kiosk building and residence that had occupied the site for more than 50 years.

Wollongong City Council funded the construction of the $1.4 million Hamptons-style white and grey timber building that will replace the kiosk which was demolished in July after no longer meeting health and food code requirements.

The new café has an elevated covered dining deck overlooking the park, a paved outdoor seating area, a kiosk and kitchen. Advance Catering Systems Holdings won the tender to operate the business.

Speaking to the Illawarra Mercury, Wollongong Lord Mayor Gordon Bradbery said he was pleased the project has been completed on schedule and on budget.
