Deconstructed ham sandwich slammed as ‘stupid’

A Sydney cafe has faced a wave of online criticism for its “deconstructed” version of a ham sandwich.

For most people the whole point of a sandwich is that all the ingredients have been handily packaged between two slices of bread.

However, Reddit user MiloXF uploaded a photo of the “sandwich” their cousin ordered, showing all the ingredients of an unmade sandwich served in two cardboard boxes. The expectation was on the customer to put it together themselves.

Ironically, the meal cost more than a regular constructed version, at $17 dollars. The Reddit community was not impressed, comparing it to a do-it-yourself style product akin to Ikea.

“If I wanted to make a sandwich myself I would have stayed at home and done it,” one user said. Another wrote: “This is the worst sandwich I have ever seen, I don’t understand the appeal of deconstructing food at all.”
