Luke Mangan’s new venue

Restaurateur Luke Mangan, ex Glass and Chicken Confidential, is transforming his wine and tapas bar Mojo in Danks Street Waterloo.

He is adding Luke’s Kitchen to his portfolio.

It’s set to launch on February 15.

It will be located at 8 Danks Street, the site occupied by Mojo which will move to the CBD later this year.

“Mojo has a big-city vibe that belongs in the CBD, while Luke’s Kitchen is a true neighbourhood eatery. We wanted to introduce the flagship in our Waterloo home,” Mangan told Broadsheet.

The new place, he said, will be different and have its own distinctive feel. It will have its own design, replacing the New York industrial feel with a colour palette of blush pinks and earthy greens.

It will have pendant lights, beaded curtains and a floral screen. There will also be a new window-facing benchtop, providing views onto the street .

As Mangan describes, it’s perfect for a lazy Sunday afternoon brunch.

“It’s unpretentious, it’s comfortable and it’s a place where guests can swing by for a glass of wine and oysters, or the works,” he told Broadsheet.

Mangan has brought in Matthew Leighton who has worked across Mangan’s Asia-Pacific restaurants including Glass Brasserie, Salt Tapas & Bar, and Chicken Confidential to head up the kitchen.

The menu will include dishes such as Tasmanian ocean trout sashimi with nan jim and coconut yoghurt; roasted organic chicken with cauliflower purée, asparagus and preserved lemon; and barbequed West Australian marron with peach and truffle honey. Whole fish and roasts will be carved at the table.

Very different from what’s on offer at Mangan’s KFC-style Chiefley Plaza chicken-burger stall, Chicken Confidential, now available across Australia.

The drinks menu will be different too with cocktails like The Australian, a mix of gin, Cointreau, Hennessy, lime juice, ginger-and-lemongrass syrup, cranberry juice and lime, and The Dank, that comes with Cachaça, apple liqueur, pineapple juice, agave, and coriander root.
