Trip Advisor’s Top Australian top 10 Australian restaurants

And so Trip Advisor has put out the list of Australia’s top 10 eateries.

And the big surprise is that Melbourne doesn’t even make the cut. Melbourne might have a reputation as Australia’s biggest food city but it couldn’t produce one restaurant to win over Trip Advisory reviewers.

That’s quite extraordinary. Last year, Melbourne’s Vue Du Monde, the leading restaurant in town, was in top spot. This year, it didn’t even make the list. That’s remarkable for a city that will be host for the ‘food” Olympics.

Even more humiliating for Melbourne is that a Canberra restaurant got a spot.

So how did the judges come to their decisions? There’s a science to it – they used an algorithm which takes into account the quantity and quality of reviews for those restaurants over the last 12 months.

“The TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice list of restaurants sets out some of the world’s and Australia’s most amazing fine-dining restaurants, and budget eats as voted by our global community,” spokeswoman Joanne Kershaw told news.com.au

“Australians have a life long love affair with food, which is why this annual accolade is such a sought after recognition for operators and foodies alike.”

Number one spot went to the Muse Restaurant in Pokolbin in the Hunter Valley.

Trip Advisor reviewers praised its “outstanding quality” with simple yet exciting locally produced food.

The Sydney restaurant Est, run by chef Peter Doyle, came in second place. Trip Advisor reviewers raved about its “delicious and inventive food and an extensive wine list”.

Restaurant Botanica, again in Pokolbin in the Hunter Valley came in at number three.

Then came Perth’s Nobu, followed by FermentAsian in Tanunda in South Australia and the Spirit House in Yandina in Queensland. Spice Bar at Mooloolaba in Queensland was ranked seventh, followed by The Stunned Mullet in Port Macquarie in New South Wales, the Courgette Restaurant in Canberra with Omeros Brothers on the Gold Coast finishing the list.
