Swiss-Belhotel International Group to open its first Australian hotel

The Swiss-Belhotel International Group will be opening its first Australian hotel in November this year.

The Hong Kong based group has taken out a long-term lease on a new South Brisbane tower.

The 134-room hotel will be located at 218 Vulture St.

The Chinese-based Horan Group bought the site in 2012 from the Baptist Union of Australia and developed it. It has turned it into a hotel that features a large corporate lounge, two banquet and meeting rooms, an indoor heated swimming pool, in-house gymnasium. It incorporate ground level commercial spaces. The basement car park has three levels for 40 cars. There is also a peak apartment building located above the hotel, holding 46 apartments and penthouses.

The hotel offers a range of different rooms, from level 1-7 Superior Rooms, Deluxe Studios and Executive Studios.

The hotel will also have a bar and casual dining venue Cafe 63.

Swiss-Belhotel International chairman and president Gavin Faull said the big draw card was the building’s location.

“We have a unique location with three large hospitals nearby which will bring in a special medical and family market,” Mr Faull told the Courier Mail.

“We are very close to the Gabba — the international sports ground, where Swiss-Belhotel will be in a unique location to capitalise on many of the international sporting fixtures at that ground.”

According to the web site, it’s just a short stroll from the River Quay restaurants, South Bank and the cultural precinct.

It is also near the Goodwill Bridge to the CBD.

Swiss-Belhotel Brisbane is in the catchment area for Brisbane State High School. Universities are nearby, as is every mode of transport.

Mr Faull said the group is eying Australia for its expansion.

It plans to have at least 10 hotels under its management in Australia within five years and at least 40 within 10 years.
