Mr Burger’s give aways

Melbourne fast food chain Mr Burger has good and bad news for its customers.

First the bad news: they have to change their surname to “Burger”. And to prove it, they have send in proof in the form of a name-change confirmation document from the Australian Government by July 31.

And the good news: they get a lifetime supply of free burgers.

So in exchange for changing their name, they’ll get one burger per day for the rest of their life!

Mr Burger would also refund the A$101.40 name-change fee for everyone taking the dare

Sounds like a good idea? The local authorities didn’t think it was that funny.

The Victorian Government Solicitor’s Office sent Mr Burger a letter asking them, in no uncertain terms, to cease their ‘Australia’s Next Mr Burger’ promotion immediately.

Mr Burger was told that no applications to change one’s name to ‘Burger’ would be granted as the process was being used for an “improper purpose”

Not to be outdone, Mr Burger responded with two fingers in the air.

On Friday at its Melbourne Central store, Mr Burger served up free burgers for all customers. And as part of the offer, customers were invited to go into the lucky dip draw to win the prize that was originally on offer: free burgers for life!

Mr Burger said it seemed like a good idea at the time.

It said it had come up with the plan in a week that was so grim and boring with Brexit and the Federal election. It wanted to put a bit of fun back into people’s lives.

“Mr Burger is irreverent and we don’t take ourselves too seriously,” Mr Burger’s marketing manager Maleik Edwards told news.com.au

“We’re these big orange trucks driving around Melbourne and we wanted to do something bright and funny to catch the attention of people”.
