Milky Lane in trouble over Instagram pic

Bondi Beach hip joint Milky Lane has run into strife after a photograph of the chef smoking was posted to Instagram.

Now it’s being investigated by Waverley Council which has confirmed it will caution the restaurant that it’s in breach of food regulations. The photo could attract an on the spot fine.

The image was posted by chef Patrick Killalea.

When it was discovered by the Daily Telegraph, it was removed.

Mr Killalea told the paper everything was above board, he was not smoking in a “food preparation areas”.

He said the picture was actually taken when the restaurant was being built.

“We were a construction site at the time, we were closed for six weeks and I smoked a cigarette inside the restaurant,” Mr Killalea told the Daily Telegraph.

“The health inspector came around and had a chat today. He was laughing about it and said someone obviously has it in for us.

“He also came in about a month ago and talked about it and said ‘people have it in for you and are making complaints about nothing’.

“He had no problem at all and there was nothing further that he was concerned about.”

It’s not the first time Milky Lane has been in trouble.

The place opened on May 6. But before it opened, it got a lot of attention when it claimed it had 10,000 fans across social media 133 reviews of the eatery. Most reviews gave it five stars. Just one little problem. The place hadn’t opened yet so the reviewers hadn’t even tried the food.

Since then, Milky Lane has attracted a lot of negative publicity about food and service.

Milky Lane has the backing of socialite and promoter Christian Avant. He’s attracted some controversy himself last year when 10 people were hospitalised suffering drug overdoses at Dirty Funken Beats parties that he promoted.
