Celebrity chef Curtis Stone takes on the big smoke as he prepares to open LA restaurant

MELBOURNE born and bred celebrity chef Curtis Stone is set to open his second restaurant in his home base of Los Angeles.

His first restaurant Maude in Beverly Hills has been a critical and commercial success since opening nearly two years ago. Maude is named after his grandmother.

“I’m knee-deep in planning the opening of a second restaurant in Los Angeles,” he told Confidential.

“So that means menu and concept development, site visits, working with designers and red tape.

“But it will be worth it when those doors open this year.”

Stone has indicated in the past he hopes to one day open a restaurant in Melbourne.

He and his family had a big 2015, travelling the world working, including in Africa.

“Recently my wife (Lindsay Price) and I spent a week in Tanzania as guest of the United Nationals World Food Program,” he said.

“The landscape and wildlife blow your mind.

“We spent time with tribes who invited us to experience their way of life — traditional dance, working in the fields, hunting baboon and cooking it for dinner that night.”

Stone turned 40 last November, and had a small party with family and close friends in Mexico just after Christmas.

Despite being based in LA, he comes to Australia a number of times a year for work committments and family visits.

Stone has two children, Hudson, 4, and Emerson, 1.
