Garden cafe could help put Boyne back on the map

New cafe opens with views of Boyne river: Dick and Helen Grant have opened a garden cafe at the Boyne Island Motel and Villas.

DICK and Helen Grant want to put Boyne Island back on the map.

The owners of Boyne Island Motel and Villas opened their garden cafe this week, to help fill a void in the region and with the goal of bringing more tourism to the area.

With views of the Boyne River and no surrounding cafes, they wanted to offer something more to the Boyne Island residents.

Next door, the former Breezes Cafe is still up for sale, after it closed five years ago.

"We feel like Boyne is a little bit forgotten," Helen said.

"We thought, we have the space and the location, so why not."

The couple hope to one day expand by opening a food van and serving breakfast in the area too.

"For the population we have in the Boyne Tannum area, there isn't nearly enough eateries.

"We're thinking maybe this will help put Boyne back on the map," she said.
