New hotel complex in Vic $50m rail revamp

Ballarat will get a new 100-room hotel and convention centre as part of a major redevelopment of the goldfields city's historic railway precinct.

Regional Development Minister Jaala Pulford said the project will deliver 140 local jobs and include a four-star hotel and convention centre with transport infrastructure, public spaces and a refurbished and re-purposed heritage goods shed.

The Victorian government says it will kick in $25 million for the project, in the heart of the city, with expressions of interest to be sought from the private sector for an investment of more than $30 million.

Expressions of interest are open and will close on December 17.
